The Month Of October Calender!
Interning NYFW! The Ups, Downs And In-Betweens
I finally made it to New York for Fashion Week! This trip was full of excitement: meeting new people, watching the runway, and searching the city at 4am. This trip didn't go as expected in every way I'd hoped, but I definitely say it was one for the books. Definitely gets me excited for next year!
Around 3 p.m., I was in Newark, New Jersey. I felt like I was one of the Olsen twins in New York Minute, rushing to get to actual New York. I headed straight to the hotel closest to the airport to get ready for my first shift of the weekend. I got ready nervously in my hotel room, wondering how this would go. Wearing a simple all-black fit, I searched on my phone, "How do I ride the train from New Jersey to New York?" Yes, it was very confusing. My hotel provided a free shuttle that took all guests straight to the airport. You had to take the AirTrain to get to the actual train in the city. Are you keeping up with me? So I needed three forms of transportation to reach one of the buildings I would be working at for the week.
I finally reach the city around 6pm, asking the first person I see controlling the long line to Gotham Hall, Where do the interns go in?" Someone I'd soon be working with directs me to the back of the building, and my NYC Fashion Week career has finally begun. A lot is going on: music equipment, camera poles, and models walking in and out of the building. Now there's me, not knowing who to report to or where I should put myself. Now's not the time to be quiet. All interns are needed for the 7-12 shift. I motioned to go talk to the director. And, honestly, he wasn't sure where I was meant to go. It was a busy night, and there were also like four other people wanting his attention. He directed me to another group of volunteers, and that's where I spent most of the night at the door. Until I was given tasks all around the building in different roles. Which was more fulfilling for me than watching the door.
It's around 9:30 pm, and the show has begun. I'm upstairs in the vip area watching from the balcony. The other interns and I commented on every outfit as we waited for our next instructions. We exchanged Instagram handles, basically our business cards. I would say I'm a sociable person, but I was nervous, wondering if It would be easy to meet new people. I met many people who made my experience so great! One girl I met towards the end of my shift convinced me to stay for the afterparty. I felt underdressed since I was only suppose to be there for work. I honestly had a great time. A woman sang Ava Marie, and the Ying Yang Twins closed out the party. Variety. After we got done partying with the Ying Yang Twins, we got pizza at the end of the night and went our separate ways. For my first day of NYFW, I'll say this was a pretty good experience.
On Saturday, my day started a little late. The girl I was staying with and I headed into the city to go to Ulta and grab food from Chipotle. Before we started the day's festivities. I decided to go to a few live events being hosted that weekend. Since I've never been to New York. I did want to enjoy a little more of the city. Around 8 p.m., I headed back to my hotel to get ready to meet back up with one of the interns I met. Again, transportation is a little confusing if you're not used to the trains. We finally met at 10. I'll be honest, we didn't have a set plan. We got a few drinks and headed around the city. That's another post all on its own. Just know the night ended at 4am. lol. I also had to pay $50 for an Uber home because the next train headed to my hotel was an hour away. So maybe don't stay in New Jersey when you're spending most of your time in New York.
Sunday morning, and we're recapping our first two days listening to Tinashe while getting ready. Interning/Events for this weekend, I give it a 7.5. I enjoyed it: the people I met, the roles I got to do. networking. I can also acknowledge that being an intern, you're at the bottom trying to work your way up. Do with that what you will. I didn't realize how big the company I interned with was. Also, not realizing most of the people I met while interning weren't from the city. Which was cool, meeting people from all over. Anyway, I've already been talking about my next NYFW with a group of people I met.
Sunday was my shortest day in the city. Friday and Saturday, I was out until I couldn't stop yawning.
On Monday, checkout was pushed to 12pm. I headed to the airport two hours early. I only found out I had to take a bus back home because of flight issues. Just know it gets worse. The next bus home was at 11 pm, which was delayed until 2:30 am the next day. When getting on my first bus home, my ticket wasn't working. I honestly feel the bus driver felt bad for me, so he just let me on. Yay for me, and also scary (lol). I'm gonna be honest, I was delirious and just ready to be home already. It took me two more buses to get home due to more delays. These delays meant I was on the phone with FlixBus customer service 20 minutes before my next bus. So I tell you this: sometimes just buy the plane ticket, no matter the price, or you'll end up like me. Your boss texting you while you're in a different state, saying you're 30 minutes late for your shift. A Shift I was supposed to make if there were no delays.
Overall, I'm happy I went to New York. I was nervous to travel by myself. It wasn't perfect, but it was truly a good time. Bucket list moment fulfilled.

The Diva Punk September Fall Guide: Activities to Get You in the Mood for Autumn
September Fall Bucket List: 10 Cozy Activities to Get You in the Autumn Mood | DivaPunk
September is here, which means we're officially entering my favorite time of year. September is basically my pre-game for October. So here's a weekly bucket list filled with activities to get you into the autumn mood!
1. Journal About Your September Goals
It's the start of a new month; give yourself 20 minutes to journal about what you hope to accomplish this month. Think of this as your September reset. It could be a new job, learning a new recipe, or finishing every Scooby-Doo movie ever! Write down five goals you want to happen this month. Now what's stopping you from making that goal a reality?
2. Declutter And Transition Your Wardrobe
We still have some hot weather on the way, but before we know it, the season will soon begin to change. Transition your summer wardrobe to your fall wardrobe. Time to make room in your closet for stockings, an oversized leather jacket, and boots! Extra diva points if you digitize your wardrobe. Makes it easier to plan outfits.
3. Pick A Fall/Halloween Themed Book For The Month
I recommend getting a free library card so you can read as much as you want. But for this month, just one book. We all should be reading more, even if it's Sookie Stackhouse novels. "Club Dead" is the book I chose for September. I've seen all of True Blood. Now time for me to compare it to the novels.
4. Make A Cozy Fall Treat This Week
I love making baked apples with brown sugar oats filling in the oven. The house smells so good, and I for sure know I'm not going to ruin it. A few more ideas I find to be easy to make!
- Hot chocolate
- cinnamon rolls
- pumpkin spice frappe
- microwave brownie
5. Fall Tv/Movie Night Ideas
I usually watch fall shows or movies year-round, but I don't know why it feels different when you watch them in September: Gossip Girl, Gilmore Girls, Supernatural, even Twin Peaks. These shows have just the right amount of dialogue and saturation to make me happy! While you're doing your decluttering, a show in the background is the perfect mood.
Gossip Girl is one show I always go back to. The iconic Thanksgiving episode and the fashion! I always felt like I related most to Jenny's style! Blair is a close second for me.
6. Have a Candlelight Dinner
7. Get a new hair color based on fall colors!
8. Decorate Your Room
9. Paint your nails in fall colors!
10. Buy Candy Corn
Let me know which one you plan on doing this week! I'll see you next week with an updated list and pictures from the first one. Hope you enjoyed this week of Diva Punk's Fall Bucket List.
