Halloween will always be my favorite holiday for a few reasons: seasonal candy corn, the music, and of course the horror/spooky movies. I honestly can't pinpoint where my love for this season comes from. But I love everything about it!
I got curious about anything horror-related in Detroit and found out it has its own horror universe. From the 60s to the early 2000s, Detroit television was entertained with campy, spooky, funny horror hosts who shared movies locally. They would make skits as well. I honestly wish I'd had the opportunity to watch some of these when they first aired. I did find a bunch of clips on YouTube. Until then, I'll share a few of the hosts who helped shape the Detroit horror scene.
We have Sir Grave Ghastly; I believe this was one of the popular ones. It was on for about 15 years.
2. Saturday Night Dead
Not to be mistaken for SNL. But it would air right after SNL. Showing campy horror and science fiction movies from 1979 to 1981. They also parodied the SNL intro. You can find it on YouTube. Honestly, this is such a good name.
The other two shows I found have a taping together are Count Scary and the Ghoul. The Ghoul started in Cleveland, Ohio, then transitioned to Detroit TV. Count Scary is another horror movie host. This isn't really a rundown of the shows. Just wanted to share a few hosts I found cool.
I can't find any full tapings of any of these shows, but YouTube has hidden gems.
I wish local TV still had fun things like this!

as a graphic design student, those visuals are really interesting. im obsessed with the "vintage" Halloween/horror aesthetic, and you’ve introduced me to a new source of inspiration for my future work. thanks for sharing!!! (https://thevelvetconfessions.blogspot.com/)
